Marine Environment Protection Training Course

Training Course Objectives:

By the end of this Marine Environment Protection training course, delegates will be able to:

  • Understand Marine Environmental Challenges and Impacts: Gain awareness of the major threats to the marine environment, including pollution from ships, oil spills, ballast water discharge, marine litter, and underwater noise.
  • Familiarize with International Conventions and Regulations: Study key international frameworks such as MARPOL, the London Convention, Ballast Water Management Convention, and regional agreements for marine environmental protection.
  • Promote Compliance with MARPOL Annexes: Learn the content and compliance requirements of MARPOL’s six annexes related to oil, noxious liquids, harmful substances, sewage, garbage, and air pollution.
  • Develop Pollution Prevention Strategies: Understand best practices and operational procedures to prevent marine pollution from shipboard and port-based activities.
  • Enhance Monitoring and Reporting Skills: Learn how to monitor environmental performance, maintain records, and report pollution incidents in compliance with national and international obligations.
  • Support the Implementation of Environmental Management Systems (EMS): Explore how to integrate environmental protection practices into ship or company EMS, in line with ISO 14001 and ISM Code requirements.
  • Encourage Sustainable Shipping Practices: Promote energy efficiency, emission reduction, and waste minimization as part of the shift toward sustainable maritime operations.
  • Understand the Role of Technology in Environmental Protection: Learn about pollution control equipment and technologies, such as oily water separators, exhaust gas scrubbers, and ballast water treatment systems.
  • Prepare for Pollution Emergency Response: Develop the capability to respond to pollution incidents effectively, including the use of contingency plans, spill kits, and coordination with coastal authorities.
  • Promote Environmental Awareness and Stewardship: Encourage a culture of environmental responsibility among seafarers, port workers, and maritime stakeholders through training and awareness programs.
